Why I Write

Every writer has a reason why they keep coming back to the page.

For me, it’s not the motivation to become a bestselling author (although, that wouldn’t hurt) but a fundamental way of how I process the world and parts of myself that struggle with this trippy thing called life.

It’s a form of therapy and a beautiful way to escape the pressures of the outside world without the assistance of mind-altering substances.

Some of you know me as a musician and drummer, which will always be my first love, but writing has become my purest form of creative independence. It’s a solitary act of creation where my own vision is the only metric that matters.

This freedom is incredibly empowering and allows me to be a better team player when connecting with others in the world of music.

And then there’s the show.

Most of the books I read are non-fiction, and instead of watching Netflix, I enjoy a different kind of movie—the one unfolding in my mind’s eye. Living in a fantasy for a few hours a day can be just as satisfying.

Writing is an immersive, internal cinematic experience that requires nothing more than a blank page, a cup of coffee, and me getting out of the way.

Thank you for reading.
